Reflection #1 Each article talks about terrorism and how the government is violating our rights. Each article is either about or written by a person who has studied and does research about this for a living. This relates to the universal theme “conflict” because many people are disagreeing with the government who are taking away or violating people's right for better security against terrorism. The first generalization that relates to our topic is opposing forces. The opposing forces are national security and human rights. They relate to our topic because the government is wanting to take away some of the citizens rights or freedoms for better security towards terrorism, however, many of the citizens are disagreeing. Natural or Man-made relates to our topic because the government has the decision on whether or not they will take away the citizens rights for better security. Therefore it is Man-made and not natural. Intentional or Unintentional relates to our topic because terrorism is usually caused intentionally because the terrorist always have a motive to bring terror in another country. But it could also bring unintentional results such as the government overpowering each other. Synthesis and Change relates to our topic because terrorism is causing so much fear in the citizens that their lives are changing. For example the government can put surveillance cameras in their homes which violates the freedom of privacy. Progress relates to our topic because the conflict between national security and human rights could lead into total disaster. Like the government will end up having so much power but taking away citizens freedoms and rights. So far what i learned that was new was the more explained definition of terrorism. I always thought terrorism was when people from a different country bombed another country because they had different opinions but there's more to the definition than just that. The topic that we have is the original we came up with but we changed our topic about 5 times because we either could not find the two sides (versus) to it or the conflict in it. I hope to find information about how the government violating the rights of the people affected the community. Something related to that. What’s working well is that i am doing my project with my best friend and if she thinks something is wrong or it does not relate to our topic she is not afraid to say her opinions. What not working well is that my partner has Lang. Arts a different than me so we always have to stay after school so we can work together.
Reflection #2 What i found out that was new was how some see it as weak if the government are protecting to citizens rights. My driving question and topic did not change because we feel as if it is good enough to keep. My partner and I would like to interview an expert on our topic because we would like to know from an expert's point of view. What has been easy is coming up with the questions to ask the expert, however, what has been difficult is actually finding an expert on who researches about our topic or at least knows what it means. What we need to stop procrastinating. But other than that my partner and I are always going to the mentor-ships whenever there are mentor-ships. My collaboration so far is spot on. We always communicate and my partner always say what’s on her mind. What is not working is she is really controlive and she knows it.
Reflection #3 What I learned about our research was what the guantanamo bay was and how many terrorist they torture for answers. What I learned about myself and my ability to work with others is that I always want to contribute and help out my partner and we may has some disagreements but we work them out. What my partner and I want to do make sure my trifold board background and imagery connects to your conflict, topic, and generalizations on a deep and symbolic level is we always want to know Ms. Parks opinion or other mentors their opinions. The artistic piece that we are planning to do is have a huge target and have darts on with the amendments on them for the people to throw. It would be awesome to see if the people miss the targets or if they actually hit the bulls-eye. What we need to do to make sure everything goes as planned is we need to always have to see if we are turning or doing things on the due dates so we do not stay behind. Our collaboration so far is great. My partner always tells me what needs to become better and if she disagrees on something. What is working well is that I’m working with my best friend and she is not afraid to tell me what is wrong and what is right. What is not working well is that I always have to get picked up early then her and I feel bad that she stays really late after school and gets home when it's already dark.
Reflection #4 Our driving question is how have counter-terrorism methods by the US contributed to legal conflicts overtime. Some of the revisions that I have made are if the research is on point and if the project is coming along nicely. What I learned about the importance of revision and editing is that when you keep looking back at it over and over, you began to start seeing mistakes every single time. I learned that scholarly research has to be credible and it could be from a professor or a person who learns about that topic all their lives. What I learned about performing in front of others is you must have a clear voice and not studer as much (never ever giggle), and u must also know what youre talking about. I think me and my partner collaborated just fine. I would have changed the board design and made it look more artistic instead of it just looking dull. What I learned about creativity and design is that everything must mean something; every color, every part of the project must have a significance. One piece of advice I would give to an incoming student next year about the project-based learning experience of Symposium is to not stress because it will be soon be over before they know it and to pick a partner they know will listen to their ideas and their opinions because that's how you can get an amazing symposium project.
